This work is a collection of photographs from moments in my daily life throughout the past few months focused on a shadow or reflection. I’ve chosen to capture these specific images because they caught my eye, made me pause, made me smile, and will never quite be replicable. I vividly remember each photo, can feel how I was sitting or standing as I captured each image, and I feel the peace wash over me from each shift of light. It’s easy for me to see the positive in the little things, but memory is a funny thing. As I look back on each image to create titles, I look past the momentary bliss, neglecting what each moment held. Instead, I am prompted to see what I was anxious about or so focused on outside of those instances. This speaks to our society as a whole, in how quickly we might move past genuine pieces of the days we live. We can be quick to jump to all of the negative aspects or merely forget what was important. I want to draw attention to the fleeting moment, no matter how short or long, where my mind once found rest.
Final series from my PHOTO 01 course with Cheyenne Hendrickson, to be continued.
